Nokia Lumia 900 available for pre-order in the UK

UK retailer Clove has gotten official word from Nokia about the price of the Nokia Lumia 900 and they've put it up for pre-order. The 900 was first unveiled for AT&T but the global version of the phone was announced just a few days ago at the MWC.

The global Lumia 900 is pretty much the same handset as the AT&T version, with the notable exclusion of LTE. You still get a 4.3" ClearBlack AMOLED screen, 8MP camera with 720p video and 16GB of storage all encased in a polycarbonate unibody.

Anyway, the Nokia Lumia 900 is available for pre-order from Clove for ?530 (?635, $845). The exact date of availability is still not clear (all Clove knows is it's going to be "some time Q2"). They are also not sure what color options they'll get, but will release the info as soon as they have it.

Carphone Warehouse have a page for the Lumia 900 too, but that's only so you can sign up for a notification when the phone becomes available. They do list May as the month they expect the phone to be available.

Here's the preorder page if you're interested. Also, you can read our hands-on with the Lumia 900 if you're not familiar with it already.

Nokia Lumia 610 pictures and details emerge

With only hours left till Nokia's press conference at MWC, we have some fresh details and images of the upcoming announcements.

Nokia Lumia 610 pictured below, will be the company's entry level Windows Phone handset. The device is expected to feature a 3.2" screen, 3MP camera, and Windows Phone Tango on board. Given the nature of the new OS, it shouldn't be a surprise if the device comes with 256MB of RAM.

The Nokia Lumia 610 will reportedly be priced at ?175, when it hits the shelves. India will be one of the first markets to receive the device.

Next in line is the global version of the Nokia Lumia 900. The AT&T version caused quite a splash during CES, so there is no surprise here.

Also, don't forget the PureView camera phone, whose teaser emerged a few days ago. The device is expected to be the successor of the venerable N8, so the interest towards it is huge.

We will be covering the Nokia press conference live (it starts at 7:30AM GMT), so stick around for the full scoop on the company's MWC lineup.

Nokia Lumia 800 with a flickering problem?

Nokia Lumia 800 with a flickering problem?

This issue has been tested on at least 5 different Nokia Lumia 800 smartphones and I found  a similar flickering problem in all of them. Whenever I hold my finger on a list and stop any scrolling motion, everything keeps shaking.  This happens on menu lists but, for example, not in the browser. However, if I do use two fingers on the browser, when making a pinch-to-zoom, the same effect happens again. I have tested also a couple of Lumia 710 and this doesn’t happen, so I’m lead to conclude that the problem might be related with the phone itself and not with the WP7 OS.  I made a quick video, where I think you can see the problem I’m talking about.   You can watch after the break.

So, is this really a problem?  Has everyone else noticed this too? Leave your comments on our forum.

Nokia Lumia 800 bundle now available in the USA – priced for a king

Nokia Lumia 800 bundle now available in the USA priced for a king

The Nokia Lumia 800, which has made quite the impression on many reviewers and users across the globe, is finally available for purchase in the United States. This announcement makes good on Nokia’s CES promise that the device would be available through official channels stateside, but, like many things, comes with a few caveats. The good news is that the polycarbonate-bodied device is being offered unlocked and unbranded, as well as being bundled with a solid set of useful accessories. The bad news is that this bundle is being offered only through Microsoft’s official retail stores (of which there is only a handful), and, to add insult to injury, will lighten one’s wallet by a soul crushing $899. Yes, you read that correctly: $899 for a device that has been available in many parts of the world for several months now.

Dropping nearly $900 on a mobile device isn’t without precedent – how many of us bought the Nokia E90 upon its release!?  So, yes, the cost is high, but the price of admission does score you a bluetooth headset, a pair of Nokia Purity HD headphones, and the wonderfully designed Nokia Play 360 wireless speaker – not a terrible proposition. However, given the fact the LTE-packing, AT&T-exclusive Lumia 900 is on the horizon boasting superior specs, Microsoft’s offering on the Lumia 800 is a difficult pill to swallow and feels light on value.

Anyone actually interested in purchasing this bundle? Any desire I had to buy one from Microsoft, officially, has completely gone out the window.
