LEDs, camera create 'invisible' Mercedes Benz

Using optical camouflage, technology experts at Mercedes Benz have figured out how to make an entire car disappear.

The researchers created the illusion that their new zero emissions F-Cell Mercedes Benz is not even there at all, the Daily Mail reported.

Taking the principal that to see through something you need to see what's behind it, they covered the driver's side of the car in mats of LEDs, and mounted a digital SLR camera on the opposite side of the vehicle.

The camera shoots video on the passenger side of the car and the video is displayed in real time on the driver side of the automobile.

This ingenious approach, originally pioneered by scientists at the University of Tokyo, works on the same principles of the blue screen used by TV weather forecasters and Hollywood filmmakers.

The idea also mimics the iPad 2 Halloween costume that seems to display a gaping hole in the human body.

In Mercedes' promotional video, stupefied Muggles stare and fall about in shock as the team put the car through its paces along the highways of Hamburg and the bridges of Bavaria.

Meanwhile online, while some pessimistic YouTube users were wary, anticipating that invisible cars would no doubt lead to brutal crashes, others fantasised about being able to park anywhere at all, without getting a ticket.

More camera samples from Nokia 808 PureView

The striking 41MP camera of the Nokia 808 PureView won it an award and we can't get enough of looking at camera samples from it. Nokia themselves released several still and video samples and they were nothing short of amazing.

The Handheld Blog were lucky enough to get a chance to take out the 808 PureView for a quick spin themselves. Here are some crops from the original 38MP photos.

100% crops from Nokia 808 PureView full-resolution photos

You can also visit their site if you want to look at the original photos, but be warned they weigh in at over 10MB each. It's also worth noting that the Nokia 808 PureView is a couple of months away from launch, so Nokia still have time to polish the image processing firmware, as Nokia's own Damian Dinning attests more than once.

Now, to the equally impressive 1080p full HD video samples. They are a month old, so they're definitely taken with pre-release software. They still look stunning, especially the first one, shot at night in low light.

Nokia Video Teases Camera for Upcoming Phone… Last Symbian?

Nokia Video Teases Camera for Upcoming Phone... Last Symbian?

The N8 is considered by many to be the best camera phone on the market today.  The successor to the N8, and final Symbian phone to be released by Nokia is looking to top even that magnificent camera with an even better one.  Check out the teaser video after the break.

The phone is currently being dubbed the Nokia 808 PureView.  The video itself places the focus squarely on imagery and the words used seem more akin to describing a camera than a phone.  Besides the amazing camera rumoured to be used on the 808, it is also supposed to be able to record at 1080p and feature a dual-core processor.  The only way to know for sure is to wait for the 27th of February when they finally make the big announcement.
